SageInternet.com has now installed Spam Assassin on our email servers. Although the filtering program will scan and identify potential spam messages that are coming to our clients, action is still required on our clients end when deciding what to do with mail that has been identified as "Spam" . We do our very best to ensure that the volume of mail is filtered before arriving in your mailbox, however as the rules change almost daily we cannot guarantee the processes that we have in place will still work next week.

How does Spam Assassin decided what is Spam and what is not?
When email comes into our mail servers for clients, it gets filtered for a number of items. Most of you are familiar with the existing email virus scanner that scans all incoming mail. Once that scan has been completed, then Spam Assassin takes over. The program will read though the mail and assign "points" to the mail in question - these points are based on a formula of 100's of tests/algorithms to test for noticeable patterns. If your incoming mail scores over 5 points, the program inserts some code in the email headers that looks like this:
X-Spam-Status: Yes
For a complete list on scoring and all the geek stuff, you can check out their main website by clicking here.
Now, the email will still get delivered to you and it is up to your mail program to deal with it how you wish. The reason that it works this way is that for some email, it may "score" as Spam, but actually be legitimate email for you. (such as setup instructions, password retrievals) In order to ensure that you don't miss any valuable communications, we let you decide how you want to deal with it using filters on you email program.
